1991 Agreement between Ford/VW and the Portuguese Government
Company’s total investment of 2,603 million US dollars, of which the state sprang in for 484, i.e. 254,000 US$ per employee (?).
According to another source (Inteli), the state incentives/subsidies amounted to € 520 million, distributed as follows:
6% fiscal incentives, 79% industrial, and 15% for training of the labor force.
1995 April 26 AutoEuropa (Ford-Volkswagen fifty-fifty equity joint venture) starts building Ford Galaxy and VW Sharan at new Palmela (Portugal) plant. (Later the Seat Alhandra was added)
2001 Portuguese exports of transport equipment, including motorcars, outstrip imports for the first time in many years.

Salaries were frozen for 2003-4 as part of an agreement with workers
2004 - 95,660 units produced, down from a peak of 138,890 reached in 1998. 2004 sales of 1429 million €. MPV vehicle production scheduled to cease in 2007
2005 - The ALCOA electrical cable parts supplier announced a corporate restructuring including the layoff of an undisclosed percentage of its current 1,050 labor force
